mass media is passe (out of date, old fashioned) . today it is all about personal media

  • more suited to the person- personal media 
  • gossip, celebrates- mass media 
  • newspaper websites should b personalised so you see the stories you want to read about

social media is word of mouth on steroids
much faster more dynmatic

social networking is no longer passive
breaking news, trends
twitter is personalised
140 characters gives you a digestible amount of news
twitter is called a micro-blogging tool  - not about friendships- its wider than that

journalist will use twitter

  • marketing and distribution platforms- send out there stories via twitter-promote their stories 
  • vox pop- interviews - the voice of the people what people think is going 
  • people talk  about things and they may quote it in the article
